I'm confused. Bribery, the paying of a legislator for favors, is illegal. Lobbying, the paying of a legislator for favors, is legal.
What the hell am I missing?

What are you missing? The cash to pay lobbyists to pay legislators for the favor of passing laws to make lobbying illegal. Seriously, I think I heard somewhere that a congressman is trying to advance a law that would prohibit legislators from being hired as a lobbyist for at least 5 yrs. after leaving office. For too many, election to office has become just another step up the "connections" ladder to rake in the big bucks.
They've been trying to pass that law for a while--it would help but not completely. As long as lobbyists can contribute to legislators' election campaigns,money will still influence our national policies.
